Ephesians 3:20-21 – “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”
A strange phrase: exceeding abundantly above. It seems that any one word would suffice by itself. But Holy Spirit wants us to see something special. The Greek, huper (one word for all 3 English words). Huper in the New Testament is used only parabolically. A Heavenly Truth with a Heavenly meaning, tied to the Life of God.
It implies excess above a certain measure or standard, and it means comparatively more than. But it is the word above in conjunction with exceeding abundantly that ties it to God and Holy Spirit in v.21. Unto God is there to be glory (Gr: doxa), primarily meaning thought, opinion, testimony. Connected with God it must be a testimony of His unchanging essence. And that according to the power that worketh in us. Listen to this: According to is the Greek kata, down in. Hallelujah!
Down in us, Holy Spirit. So, this is not a stand-alone, ordinary measurement. It is a Holy measurement. Unlimited. Above any measure.
Do we believe that? If so, why would we not want to be being Spirit-filled all the time? And concerned with how to be so? And quit counting on anything or anyone else?
