There is a common misuse of a word that never appears in Scripture. Relationship. God never uses the word Relationship. Today this word is thrown around with multiple meanings and uses. It is another example of the devil detouring and distorting one of the most important Truths of God: Ye must be Born Again to be in the family of God.
Relationship is a man-made term that today describes all sorts of interactions of people. It began in 1744 as a term denoting a birth, a family, and the “relationship” family members have. Not until around 1945 did the term get applied to romantic encounters. And not until the mid-1970’s did the term ever get used for social ties.
The proper limited use for “relationship” from God’s standpoint always involves a birth, a familial connection. But God’s words are simply FAMILY, CHILD, SON, FRIEND. All stem from the Supernatural Spiritual Birth into the Family of God.
So, what is God’s term for the interaction of family members, friends, or the romantically involved? FELLOWSHIP. 15 powerful verses speak of God’s value of “fellowship.” The Word of God tells us we are to grow in our fellowship with one another, and with God. We will look at many of these in the days ahead.
As Saints, we would do well to curtail our use of the word “relationship” and start thinking “fellowship”…and look up all those verses.
