1 Corinthians 13:8, “Charity (Love) never fails…”
The term “love” is possibly one of the most misunderstood, misused, and abused words in our English language. An eternal term of God mistaken for a degenerated term of humanistic thinkers.
Charity and Love from the Greek in 1 Corinthians 13 is agape. This is much more than some ushy, gushy emotional thing. God tells us in Galatians 5:22, His Love is the ultimate manifestation of His Life. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love…” Fruit is the ultimate manifestation of the life of its source.
God and His Love cannot be separated. 1 John 4:8, 16 tell us “God is love.” God = Love. In 4:19 we are told, “We love God, because He first loved us.”
In Ephesians 5:25, God tells us, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church, and gave himself for it.” In v.28, “So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.”
So when we say, “I love you,” we should be very careful of how and to whom we say this. For it to have the meaning God gave us for Love, God must be at the core of our proclamation.
p.s. Today is the 57th anniversary of the wedding of Barbara and me. Love never fails.
