Prosperity and Health

3 John 2. Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

John speaks of two desires for Saints: prosperity and health just as their soul is prospering. It is interesting that the Greek eudoo (prosper) is only used in the New Testament with the meaning to be led in a righteous way. It does not refer to success, gain, plenty, etc.

The Greek hugiaino (health) is speaking of being sound, healthy, or physically well.

The interesting thing is this: even as thy soul prospereth. How is that? Holy Soul, led by Holy Spirit, always leads in a righteous Way. So, John is saying that he wishes the recipient(s) of this letter may enjoy being led by Holy Spirit through Holy Soul in a righteous Way along with having good physical health.

God is more into the prevention of disease than in healing of disease (yes, He does heal). We can all agree that many health and mental issues today come from stress brought on by many factors with a spiritual root.

Our eudoo comes from Holy Soul in us. The residue soul desires to dissolve our fellowship with God. Therefore, to have eudoo and hugiaino we must stay in fellowship of Holy Soul. Think on these things (Philippians 4:8).

Living in Holy Spirit’s Sound Mind is the ultimate resource to avoid external stressors. And we know God wants us to be free of stress.
