Proverbs 15:22, “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established.”
Proverbs 11:14, “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.”
Two words in the Hebrew are important to know: “counsel,” cowd. Appears only 6 times in the O.T., while “counsel” from other words appears around 150 times. Cowd speaks of intimate consultation. This is the word in v.15:22. The other word, tachbulah, speaks of steerage, management, good advice. This is the word in v.11:14. Stop and meditate on what God is saying in both verses.
There is one word for “counselors” in both verses: yaats, speaking of one who gives advisement and guidance. It is worthy to note the English “counselor(s)” does not appear in the N.T. Why? John 14:26, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit…he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 16:13, “…he, the Spirit of Truth…will guide you into all truth…” Saints have an indwelling wisdom of God.
We Saints have a teacher and guide to all Truth. However, it can always be a good thing to have Saints walking in the Spirit to be sounding boards to consider, confirm, and conclude we are hearing Truth from Holy Spirit. I have about 10 such Saints I can constantly lean on.
