The Legalistic Lens

Too many Saints live seeing Christianity through the Legalistic Lens. It is the mantra of too many gatherings. See if you recognize any of these:

lists of to dos and not to do’s

The 10 Commandments, and the rest of the Law. God says these are our schoolmaster for bringing us to Christ, and Saints are no longer under the Law…but under Grace (God’s Riches as Christ Enacts through a Saint).

Most new Saints are told all their sins – past, present, and future – are forgiven at salvation. Yet must ask forgiveness IF a sin is committed after salvation.

Most new Saints are told of being a new creation with Holy Spirit indwelling to be their spiritual life (Romans 8:9,11), but are given a list of do’s and don’ts immediately after baptism and joining a gathering.

unspoken rules, as well as all the spoken ones, and punishment for breaking any rule.

Religious rules rule the day in Legalistic circles. The Legalistic Lens sees strict beliefs about all sorts of things: dress, hair, drink, food, activities, etc. etc. etc. Even certain spiritual words cannot be uttered in some groups. Some sort of discipline or condemnation usually follows the breaking of a rule.

The Legalistic Lens is a view to bondage. There is no freedom IN CHRIST seen through a Legalistic Lens.
