Try the Spirits

1 John 4:1, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God…”

An interesting admonition from Holy Spirit. Beware, there are spirits other than Holy Spirit. Try them. Test them. Be alert of them.

There are actually only two spirits: Holy Spirit and demonic spirit. The trichotomy diagrams of a sinner and a Saint show these. Spirit is the life of the individual. Whether it be of God, a Saint, a sinner, or the devil himself.

Holy Saints are Holy because of the Life in each Saint. God’s Life. Holy Spirit.

Sinners are unholy because of the life in each sinner. The devil’s life…unholy spirit.

How can we begin to “try” the spirits? Ask questions:

·         If there is any Truth, which Spirit? Holy Spirit

·         if there is any confusion, which spirit? demonic, unholy spirit

There are almost innumerable questions and possibilities to “try.” We know this: Holy Spirit and demonic spirit are in direct opposition to one another. There is no “gray” in this matter.
