Understanding Peace

Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which passeth understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

How can a Saint understand peace when our text verse says peace that passes understanding? On the surface that may sound confusing. God is not the author of confusion. Two things: (1) all Scriptural Truth is parabolic. Given so that anyone not thinking in THE Mind of God cannot know the Truth of the words. (2) the best commentary on Scripture is Scripture. And there are verses that clearly speak of a Peace that can be understood.

Take for instance, John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you…” And 1 Corinthians 2:16, “…But we have the mind of Christ.” Therefore, having the Mind of Christ all Saints can know and understand His Peace He gives to Saints, which is not like the world gives. It would be impossible to not be able to know.

And perhaps first and foremost, the Greek for passeth is huperecho: better, superior, excellency, supreme. It is so much above the natural mind that only the Mind of God can understand. God is parabolically saying Saints in the Mind of God can know and understand His Peace. Walking in the Spirit, Saints can experience His Peace. No matter the circumstances.
