Wrong Words & False Definitions

One of the most destructive issues in Christianity is the choice to use an incorrect word that oftentimes is not even a Scriptural word. Our enemy is a master at deceit, diversion, and derailing what God intends for us to communicate with one another.
A prime example is the word relationship. This English word does not appear in the Holy Scriptures. Astounding, isn’t it? A word of common use by us. A word of invention by mankind, not God. And not only that, but this word has been detoured from its original meaning and usage to now become a nebulous word thrown around carelessly.
God’s word is fellowship. Appears only 2 times in the Old Testament; 15 times in the New Testament (12 times, koinonia – involving partnership, communication).
Originally, relation or relationship meant kin, of a family. Related by birth. It was never used to mean some sort of friendship or partnership. Today people speak of being in a relationship with _________. You name it. Without any specific identity of whatever the connection really is.
To say something like, “Without an intimate relationship with God…,” is to misuse the word, and can even lead to someone doubting their salvation if they are not living like a Saint or don’t have that intimacy mentioned. God desires an intimate fellowship with each of His Saints.
Can we see the nebulous use of relationship as part of the weakening of what it really means to be by a birth or kinship? The failure to prohibit the distortion or destruction of the English language is doing great damage to communicating major Truth of the Holy Scriptures.
